A cell phone FAQ is something we can all benefit from
The questions just keep on coming up as the array of cell phones available to us just keep growing. Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Audiovox, Mitsubishi, Sony, Ericsson, Philips, Hyundai and Novatel, the list just goes on and on as does the number of models they produce. The sheer numbers alone are confusing and then when they throw terms like GPPS or analog at us, we really get befuddled. What is GPRS?
GPRS stands for General Pocket Radio Service (also known as 2.5G) and is the
latest improved standard on GSM networks for high speed data connection,
which enables faster browsing on the mobile web. Have we Seen the End of Analog? No! Although digital phones are superior, their coverage is not total and if you live or travel in a rural area, you should consider a dual mode phone. They operate on both digital and analog networks, so the chance of you being out of touch is greatly reduced. Also analog is better for someone who uses a hearing aid, as digital phones are not suited for use with a hearing aid. Though digital phone manufacturers are working to solve that problem. What is a Tri-Band Phone?A tri-band phone is one that can be used around the world. If you travel frequently in Europe or Asia, you will find your cell phone won’t work overseas since Europe and Asia use a different digital frequency then we do in North America. So unless your cell phone has tri-band capabilities, you may just as well leave it home. What About Safety?Cell phone safety is an important subject which continues to be researched by scientists. However there are no proven links between cell phone usage and cancer. Accessories for your cell phone such as hands free car sets, makes using your cell phone while driving a lot safer and some states and municipalities have laws requiring the use of hands free cellular equipment while driving. Your physical and financial safety may be at risk from camera cell phones. Someone could photograph your credit card and other info while you are making a purchase. This could lead to identity theft, draining of your bank account, or home invasion type crime. So be aware of who is doing what, around you. What’s All This About Roaming?Roaming occurs when you make or receive calls to or from outside your covered calling area and therefore additional charges may apply, in addition long distance charges may also be incurred. If you travel a lot make sure you plan has a wide area of coverage so that you won’t be saddled with these charges. Are Camera Phones Good Quality? For the most part, yes, cell phone cameras do produce good quality photos and they will only get better as cell phone manufacturers come out with high resolution camera. These few questions should help you be better prepared when you go looking for a new cell phone and cell phone plan.
